Syringa House was architect designed and build out of heart rimu in the 1950s. When Alison bought it in 2017, it had been owned by the same family for 43 years. Since then the house has been extensively renovated; restoring and preserving some original features while modernising and extending the space. Recycling some of the existing materials and fittings has been a labour of love.

Who is this?
Syringa house is divided into three generous living spaces, each with separate access, private bathroom and kitchenette. Each apartment has its own covered veranda and views into the surrounding gardens. The gardens are well maintained with old trees and extensive new plantings. Various fruit trees and vines produce good crops of fruit each year. Birds and bees are attracted to the garden; the Tui and other native birds can be seen and heard every day.
The house is well insulated and centrally heated with a total of nine hot water radiators throughout. The carpets are pure New Zealand wool with woolen underlay. The apartments are very warm in winter, with good ventilation and outdoor living in summer.
All the linen is pure cotton, down or wool. We try to use organic or eco products and recycle all waste.
